Striper Fishing Lanier 5.15

Took the boat out on Lanier this day to try and put local LAKE member (Dana) on some Stripers. I rarely get an early start so we decided 8:30 AM at a near by Lowe's would be a good place to meet up.

From there we headed to East Bank to put in, stopping for Bluebacks on the way.

We trolled a it at East Bank without luck then head to Old Federal. Before setting up a troll pattern, we caught up with a couple more LAKE members that were fishing the area. (Pat and Dave). It was good seeing them again. After a nice chat, Dana and I set off to troll a bit.

Almost as soon as we got the 4 rods set in the water a  hard drag scream went off. I handed it off to Dana and she landed the first Striper!

We wouldn't see our next Striper until the end of the day at Six Mile. We also netted a few Spots in the mix. Note to self: trolling dead Bluebacks will produce strikes!

Over all it was a great day with good friends.

East Bank to Old Federal & LAKE C&P

Well we had the LAKE Spring Camp & Paddle at the end of April but my camp mate was not feeling well so he had to leave early. It was a small turn out and basically fizzled out by mid day Saturday due to storm threats. We did have a couple get togethers that were fun. Of course there was food...

Since Jim missed the C&P I decided to invite him out on my boat for some Stripper fishing.

Tuesday I took everything out of the boat and washed it. Wednesday I picked up some up-rights and installed those. This will be a huge help on backing down the ramp, especially when the trailer is empty. The bad news ... it takes up more room in the garage!

Once we arrived at Eat Bank and got the boat in the water. A guy asked if I could help tow his boat in. He had let his son use it the previous day for the first time and the battery died on it. It was just in the next cove over from the ramp so I helped him out.

Once that was out of the way we set out to hunt some fish.

We hit that same cove and trolled a bit with only one Black bass to show for it. We decided to head North.

Jim offered lunch so we headed for Pig Tails on the lake. I love that you can dock and walk right up and the food was great.

Once we were stuffed we headed up to Old Federal to troll some more. Jim caught one or two more Black Bass. Then a nice Walleye hit.

I fed this fellow one of the dead Blueback Herring we had.

We were about to give up when a nice Striper decided to join the party...

We only had a couple of baits left and it was getting late so we called it a day. It turned out to be a pretty good day of fishing.
